Border Security Force In Meghalaya Seizes 100 Kg Human Hair
SHILLONG: The BSF (Border Security Forces) has seized 100 kg of human hair from the area near the International border in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.
On Wednesday 13 April, the paramilitary force found 100 kilo gram of human hair that were actually meant for smuggling to the neighbouring country Bangladesh.
The BSF has issued a statement in this regard informing that 100 kg hair was recovered which was intended to smuggle from Meghalaya to Bangladesh.
The official further added that human hair in Bangladesh is currently in high demand because of the growing wig trade in the country.
A BSF spokesperson informed in the statement informed that Bangladesh has replaced Myanmar as an emerging transit centre for smuggling human hair and shipping them to China.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh exports human hair to around 150 different countries worldwide and in the recent years the country has earned remarkable profit in the global market through wig business.
There are 150 factories in different districts of the country and 3 export processing zones (EPZs) that produce wig products like wefts, hair pieces that are sold to clients from across the globe.
Some of the major district producing wig products includes Dhaka, Nagoan, Bagerhat, Rajshashi, Pabna, Sherpur and Gazipur.
As per the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) the international hair wigs and extension market is likely to reach 13.3 billion dollar by the year 2026.
Apart from the global market, the demands of hair wigs and its related products are also rapidly growing in the local market over the past few years.
The main wig export destinations of Bangladesh include countries such as the United States of America, China, Japan, Africa, South America, Middle East and Europe.
Clients mainly from China visit the country to purchase human hair, weft, raw hair, toupee, wig-lets and loose hair from various wig producing factories.
